Maternity Bra
Maternity bra is specially designed for women who are pregnant that provides extra support and comfort as compare to other normal bras. All expectant mothers undergo numerous changes in their breasts size during and even after pregnancy. This is mainly due to weight gain and this extra weight will enlarge the breast size and causing it more sensitive. Therefore, it is important to choose bras that provide proper support and comfort for larger and heavier breasts throughout the whole nine months.
When the breast begins to swell and feeling tender, then it is the right time to wear the maternity bra to avoid sagging and over stretched the ligaments in the breast. Most expecting mommies start wearing this special bra by the 3rd to 4th month of pregnancy. Always be reminded that do not buy a bigger size fashion bra because the design of the normal bra cannot give the required support and comfort to pregnant ladies. It is advisable to have at least 2 to 3 bras which is for daily wear, daily launder for hygienic purposes and to keep as a spare. Besides, some women need to buy different sizes of bra during the pregnancy period because some tend to change in size drastically till the final weeks.
Remember to buy bras that fit properly and here are few tips to apply.
- It is best to seek the advice from a maternity specialist or the professional staffs at the store when choosing and making the appropriate choices.
- Look for shoulder strap with cushioning and wide size band to give stronger support for the enlarging breast tissue
- Use a measuring tape to measure around the body which is under the arm to get the correct band size. Round up to the nearest even number if the number is uneven.
- Measure around the fullest part of the breast with the measuring tape to determine the cup size. The cup should cover the breast adequately without spilling out the breast tissue causing lack of support.
- Ideally the band should be lying under the bust and level around the body without riding up or creeping the bust tissue
- Preferably choose a bra with more than 3 hooks or closure at the back for flexibility in fitting
- Choose one that is made from 100% cotton material because pregnant mothers get hot easily especially during summer months. Cotton allows moisture to escape easily from the body thus reduce body heat.
- It is best to choose a soft cup than an underwire because it won’t exert pressure on to the bust when it is at the fullest. It is not advisable to sleep with an underwire because it might block the milk ducts and cause breast infection if much pressure is exert on to the breast tissue.
- Always remember to try them on before making purchases in order to get the most fitting and comfortable one.
There are many maternity bras available in the market that provide superb support and comfort to the soon to be mothers. Many leading brands offered varying designs, styles, fashions and colors with competitively pricing.
